On August 22 2010, BLM held the first service of its new weekly church services in Hagerstown,MD. The name of the church is Keepers of the Flame and it takes Leviticus 6:13 (NASB) as it’s guiding verse: “Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar, it is not to go out.” The church seeks to give everyone the opportunity to experience deep intimacy with God. With an approachable and personable atmosphere, the church seeks to minister to those who are hurting and living in spiritual darkness. More pointedly, it offers help to individuals, directly guiding them in their spiritual journey, discovering their passions, their gifts, and their destiny by equipping them and their family to fulfill everything God has destined for them.

Why start a church as part of BLM? Because the Lake family, and all those on the staff of the church, have a heart to show people, especially those new to and even not yet part of the Kingdom of God, a place where they are accepted for who they are and where they are in life. The church will not have an air of superiority, but rather, one of love and support as we all seek to grow closer to God. We understand that while some of us may be further along on the path to God, none of us are perfect yet. It will be a place where each person admits his own shortcomings but focuses on each other’s successes. It is a place where no voice is “more important” than another. (“Leadership” and “Importance” are too very different ideas that many churches seem to have melded into one concept; BLM and this church seeks to keep those ideas separate.)

Everyone is encouraged to come and be part of the church. We’re already a family, as created by God, so there’s no reason to believe you won’t fit in. Founded by the Lake family, the church is also modeled after family; not perfect, ever growing, but always with love and affection. See you there!
